Amazing Scones Baking Race™ Rules in Detail "The Fine Print"
Tea Trade Mart and Jennifer Petersen present the 2018 Amazing Scone Baking Race™ (“Contest”). Participation in the Contest constitutes full and unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of, these Official Rules. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN HOWEVER ENTRY FEES MAY APPLY. ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL RULES APPLY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
Who Can Enter
The National Grand Prize Contest is open to any amateur baker* 18 years of age or older as of January 1, 2018. An amateur baker is defined as any person who does not make the major portion of their income by baking. Finalists may be subject to audit. *Amateur baker includes professional bakers whose annual income is derived from 50% or less from professional baking.
New! Professional Division: a professional baker or chef is defined as any person who makes greater than 50% or more from professional baking or own a food and beverage business.
You Are Not Eligible to Enter If:
You or your spouse, parent or child (all regardless of place of residence) or others currently living in your household is employed by one of the sponsors.
You are an employee of any national or state baking industry organization, or their associations; or a member of the immediate family (parent, children, siblings, spouse) or live in the same household as an employee (whether related or not).
To Enter Online:
Submit your original scone recipe using the online entry form at www.amazingsconebakingrace.com. Complete all fields of required information. All online entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (PST) seven days before the event. Each online entry should be submitted only once. Note: Entering the same recipe multiple times will NOT increase entrant’s chances of becoming a finalist. Each entrant may enter multiple recipes/categories but will only be eligible to become a finalist with one recipe in one category of the contest. The Amazing Scone Baking Race™ sponsors and their agencies are not responsible for any changes or effects caused to the entrant’s computer system as a result of submitting online entries, or entries that cannot be processed due to telephone, network, electronic, computer hardware/software failure, or technical failures of any kind.
All entries become the exclusive property of the sponsors and will not be acknowledged or returned. Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to suspend, modify, or terminate the Contest. Odds of winning depend upon the total number of eligible entries in the contest.

By submitting recipes to the Amazing Scone Baking Race™, the entrant is representing his/her recipe as original and owned exclusively by the entrant. Judges will disqualify previously published recipes, including those published in any magazine, cookbook, recipe website, or other recipe contest, unless the recipe features changes considered significant by the judges. Judges will have full discretion to determine whether changes are significant. All finalists are solely responsible for complying with any applicable copyright restrictions, and the Amazing Scone Baking Race™ sponsors, its agencies and the judges assume no obligation in that regard.
Each and every eligible recipe submitted to the Contest will be read by an experienced team of food professionals.
· Recipes using alcohol as an ingredient will not be accepted. Recipes may not have won previous awards, may not have been published previously and must not infringe upon any other person’s rights. Each recipe must include U.S. standard measurements, complete preparation instructions, cooking time and temperatures, number of servings, size of pans and any special utensils or cookware.
· The recipe judging criteria is as follows:
· Taste (taste and aroma) 1-30 points
· Originality, artistic flair 1-20 points
· Ease of preparation /clarity of recipe 1-10 points
· Overall Appearance/Consumer Appeal 1-30 points
By entering one or more recipes in the Contest, all finalists agree to participate in the national competition events. All finalists must agree to abide by these Official Rules, and the decisions of the Amazing Scone Baking Race™ and the judges, which shall be final in all matters relating to the Amazing Scone Baking Race™.
Finalists' recipes will be automatically forwarded to King Arthur Flour where the recipes will be tested in the King Arthur Flour test kitchens. King Arthur Flour judges will determine the National Grand Prize Winner.
Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website; violates the Official Rules; or acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner at any time during the final competition, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. By submitting one or more recipes, each entrant accepts all Contest rules and agrees to be bound by the decisions of the judges, which shall be final. Each entrant also agrees that each original recipe and all legal rights and interests in said recipe, including the rights of copyright, become the exclusive property of the Amazing Scone Baking Race™ which reserve the right to edit, adapt, copyright, publish, transfer, and use any or all Contest entries, without compensation to the entrant or any third party.

Special Awards: In addition to finalists’ awards and the Grand Prize, four (4) special awards of $25 cash may be given depending on entries received:
Best Recipe Using Tea
Best Recipe Using Cranberries
Best Recipe Using Chocolate
Special Award winners, chosen from among eligible entries, may not be guaranteed a spot as one of the finalists and need not be present to win.
Important Finalist Information
Finalists will be notified within 48 hours of judges' decision. Sponsors will also select two (2) alternates.
Selected finalists will be required to sign a notarized affidavit verifying the originality, authorship, and ownership of their recipes prior to competing in the Amazing Scone Baking Race™; their eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules and a release of the Amazing Scone Baking Race™, Jennifer Petersen, King Arthur Flour, the judges, and their respective directors and employees from all liability, claims, damages, and injuries resulting from the finalists’ participation in the final competition and the acceptance and use of a prize including, without limitation, any personal injury, death, loss or damages of any kind, or claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy (the “Release”). Finalists shall return the Release to the sponsors within ten (10) business days of date of personal delivery or date of sender’s postmark. Failure to return the Release in the time permitted, or return of notification as undeliverable, will result in the entrant being disqualified and an alternate selected. All finalists agree to return any prize received if the representations made herein or in the Release prove to be untrue and to further indemnify and hold harmless the Amazing Scone Baking Race™ et al against any and all claims, damages, and expenses, including attorney’s fees incurred as a result of any such misrepresentation.
Selected finalists may waive to receive a prize. Prizes are nontransferable. No substitutions or case equivalents allowed by winners. Prizes are subject to availability and Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value.
Selected finalists will also be required to sign a consent and release to grant the Amazing Scone Baking Race™ sponsors permission to use said finalist’s name and personal information in any media relating to their participation for publicity, promotion, advertising, and other purposes without further notice or additional compensation to promote the Contest or the recipe (the “Consent”); and shall further assign to the Amazing Scone Baking Race™, Jennifer Petersen, and King Arthur Flour all rights of ownership, including copyright, in any such recipe and return the Consent within two business days of receipt of notification. Selected finalists may be required to make themselves available for interviews during the time their recipe is publicized locally or nationally in the media.
Acceptance of finalist status or a Contest prize will further constitute and signify agreement and consent (or that of parent or legal guardian if winner is a minor) that the Sponsors and/or Sponsors’ assignee may use the winner’s recipe, name, photograph, images, likeness, voice, signature, biographical information, recipe and/or any other intellectual property materials created or submitted as part of the Contest, in addition to any and all materials created during public relations activities related to the Contest (collectively “Publicity Materials”) for purposes of advertising, publicity and trade related to Sponsors’ products and/or services, in all media worldwide (including Sponsors’ websites), without further compensation, except where prohibited. Finalists’ statements may be used in whole or in part and may be paraphrased, amplified, shortened, and/or put into conversational form to meet the requirements of copy, layout and/or script, provided their general sense is not changed. All Publicity Materials developed or used will be Sponsors’ property and will be works “made for hire” and winners will retain no ownership rights whatsoever in or to said works. If said Publicity Materials are not considered works “made for hire,” winners hereby assign all said works to Sponsors.
If a finalist becomes unable to compete for any reason, the sponsors will attempt to replace that finalist with an alternate, provided the alternate can comply with the conditions stated above. If no alternate can comply by that date, the finalist will not be replaced.
Selected finalists must deliver their scones and their submitted recipe at the Amazing Scone Baking Race™ designated dates and locations. No ingredient substitutions, added decorations, slashes, or logos can be added at the contest. Finalist will be disqualified and the cash prize forfeited.
At the Amazing Scone Baking Race™ events, the sponsors and merchants will supply the location, judges, media, livecams and publicity only. There is no responsibility to the entrant for scone ingredients, electricity, or other expenses needed to enter the contest. It is expressly understood that sponsors are under no obligation to the finalists other than as expressly set forth in these Official Rules. The winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes and fees associated with the receipt of any prize.
Limitations of Liability
Neither Sponsors nor their agencies are responsible for lost, late, stolen, illegible, misdirected, or non-delivered entries or e-mail; or for lost, interrupted or unavailable satellite, network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website or other connections availability, accessibility or traffic congestion, or miscommunications, or failed computer, network, telephone, satellite, or cable hardware, software or lines, or technical failure, or jumbled, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions, or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic or network, or the incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry or other information or the failure to capture, or loss of, any such information. Neither Sponsors nor their agencies are responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest and assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or tampering with or hacking of websjte. Sponsors reserve the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds may be tampering with the entry process or operation of the Contest or website, may be acting in violation of the terms of the website or may be acting in a non-sportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to threaten, abuse or harass any other person. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest is unlawful and subject to legal action by Sponsors or their agents.
All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of the official rules, or rights of entrants, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with, the substance laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflicts of law principles. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable, these rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
IN NO EVENT WILL SPONSOR, ITS AFFILIATES, SUBSIDIARIES OR RELATED COMPANIES BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR LOSSES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THIS CONTEST, INCLUDING ENTRANTS ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE WEBSITE OR DOWNLOADING FROM AND OR PRINTING MATERIAL DOWNLOADED FROM SAID WEBSITE. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, EVERYTHING ON THE WEBSITE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
